Ya joined the DYP Learning Center after several years without access to further education or training. At DYP, he learned Braille, giving him greater access to learning and a stronger foundation for independence.
He now specialises in bakery while continuing to develop coffee and beverage service, assistive technology, traditional music and English. These practical and learning pathways are helping him build confidence and prepare for employment.
During the Semi-Independent Living Project year, Ya’s primary responsibility is working in the bakery. He will also take greater responsibility for his schedule, travel, shared household duties, budgeting and everyday decisions with regular DYP guidance.
“Independence truly means being self-reliant in daily life, including travelling independently, managing household tasks, and earning a living.”Ya
His current pathway combines bakery, coffee and beverage service, traditional music, English, Braille and assistive technology with the practical skills needed for employment and independent living.
Building hands-on skills in food preparation, baking routines, hygiene, teamwork and everyday bakery operations.
Strengthening drink preparation, customer service, hygiene, teamwork and the practical routines of a beverage workplace.
Using Braille and assistive technology to access learning while continuing to strengthen English and digital confidence.
Continuing traditional music while practising budgeting, travel, time management, household responsibilities and everyday decision-making.
After completing the project, Ya plans to seek employment so he can gain experience and build stability. In the longer term, he hopes to run a small bakery and coffee-and-beverage shop, while also sharing technology knowledge with other people with visual impairments.
Gain work experience, develop a small bakery and beverage business, and use technology skills to support others.
Sponsorship supports the practical conditions Ya needs to continue bakery practice, beverage training, English study, music and technology development while practising real-world independence with DYP guidance.
