Reaksa is preparing for employment as a barista while strengthening café service, English, assistive technology and independent living skills for a self-determined future.
Barista training and café operations
Sponsorship contributes to shared housing, daily living, transport, continued training and regular DYP follow-up during the project year.
Reaksa joined the DYP Learning Center after several years without access to education or vocational training. At DYP, she began developing practical knowledge, professional skills and confidence while discovering new possibilities for her future.
Reaksa now specialises in barista training, including coffee preparation, beverage service and basic café operations. She is also strengthening her English and assistive technology skills to support communication, work readiness and greater independence.
During the Semi-Independent Living Project year, Reaksa’s main vocational responsibility will be working as a barista. She will also take greater responsibility for her schedule, travel, shared household duties, budgeting and daily decisions, with regular DYP guidance as she builds confidence in community life.
“Independence means having the freedom and confidence to live my life, make my own choices, and go wherever I wish without relying on others.”Reaksa
Her current pathway combines professional barista practice, customer service, English and assistive technology with the practical skills needed for employment and independent living.
Developing coffee preparation, beverage service, equipment care and consistent professional work routines.
Practising customer service, order preparation, teamwork, cleanliness and the daily responsibilities of a café.
Strengthening spoken English, workplace vocabulary and confident communication with customers and colleagues.
Using assistive technology while practising budgeting, travel, time management and everyday decision-making.
After completing her DYP training, Reaksa plans to work professionally in the coffee and beverage sector, continue learning new techniques and build confidence through employment. In the longer term, she hopes to become a businesswoman in her community and earn an independent income.
Gain professional barista experience and work toward operating a small coffee or beverage business in the future.
