Jek is strengthening her Khmer Braille teaching, massage, English, assistive technology and independent living skills as she prepares to support others through education.
Khmer Braille teaching
Sponsorship contributes to shared housing, daily living, transport, continued training and regular DYP follow-up during the project year.
Jek joined the DYP Learning Center after several years without access to further education or training. At DYP, she strengthened her Khmer Braille literacy, giving her greater access to learning and a stronger foundation for independence.
She now specialises in Khmer Braille, English, assistive technology and massage. In addition to her own studies, she teaches Khmer Braille to other DYP students, sharing her knowledge and building practical teaching experience.
During the Semi-Independent Living Project year, Jek will further develop her Khmer literacy teaching while managing more of her schedule, travel, shared household duties, budgeting and daily decisions with regular DYP guidance.
“Independence truly means taking ownership of one’s life, including the ability to live independently in daily activities.”Jek
Her current pathway combines Khmer Braille teaching, massage, English and assistive technology with the practical skills needed for employment and independent living.
Strengthening Khmer Braille literacy while gaining experience teaching other students and supporting their learning.
Developing practical massage techniques, professional routines and the confidence required to work with clients.
Continuing English study while exploring learning opportunities that strengthen her teaching, communication and independent living skills.
Using assistive technology while practising cooking, budgeting, travel, time management and everyday decision-making.
Jek plans to continue her education and develop a career supporting others. She aims to become a Khmer Braille teacher at DYP, help the next generation of students and contribute to DYP’s research activities.
Use her Khmer Braille knowledge and teaching experience to support students while building a stable and independent future.
